Aug. 3, 2009 – Long Island, N.Y. – THE NEW YORK CALL, an annual outdoor gathering of people from across the tri-state area, returns next month to Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, N.Y., for a full day of inspiration, music, ministry and fun.
From noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, we will once again bring together a combination of dynamic speakers, family entertainment and an all-star Gospel concert. The event is open to everyone. Admission and parking are free.
The NEW YORK CALL was conceived in 2004 by world-renown Gospel singer Donnie McClurkin, the senior pastor of Perfecting Faith Church in Freeport, N.Y., to bring together churches and ministries in the tri-state area for the purpose of promoting unity and cohesion within the Christian community.
Pastor McClurkin will be one of several powerful speakers to address the thousands expected to flock to Eisenhower Park. Others include Bishop Carlton T. Brown, senior pastor of Bethel Gospel Assembly in Harlem; Pastor Roberto Seda, senior pastor of Christian Tabernacle Pentecostal Church Inc. in Brooklyn; and Pastor Michael Durso, senior pastor of Christ Tabernacle in Glendale, Queens.
Beginning at noon Saturday, our guests will have the chance to visit several pavilions set up on the park grounds, where they can pick up free information on health and wellness, education, careers, kids and families. Free health screenings for blood pressure and glucose also will be provided, with a primary focus on heart and stroke information provided by the American Heart Association. In addition, we'll have interactive games, sports and activities for the entire family, as well as free samples and giveaways.
Events on the main-stage will kick off at 3 p.m. One of this year’s highlights is a Gospel concert, which we're excited to say will include the newly formed New York Call Multicultural Choir, comprised of an ethnically diverse body of Christians from different churches across the tri-state area. In addition, several national Gospel recording artists are scheduled to appear. They include mega-award-winning singer/songwriter/producer BeBe Winans; Melinda Watts, the Season 3 winner of Gospel Music Channel's reality talent search series, Gospel Dream; Sheri Jones-Moffett, best known as a featured vocalist with the Tri-City Singers and one-half of the celebrated duo Ted & Sheri; and Gospel rapper Lazarus.
In addition, this year not only will Pastor Clurkin minister in word but also in song during a mini concert that’s sure to include a mix of fan favorites and songs from his new CD, "We All Are One (Live in Detroit)."
The NEW YORK CALL is sponsored in part by American Heart Association and Americhoice. Media partners are The Word Network, WLIB (1190 AM) and WBLS (107.5 FM). Exhibitors include Air Jamaica, Jamaica Tourist Board, Amtrak, Prudential, Glaceau VitaminWater, Grace Foods, TD Bank and Buttafuoco & Associates.
